Project Overview

Inspired by the fluidity and eternal nature of the ocean, this revolutionary chair design challenges the status quo. Its design enables the chair to be composed using a single type of plastic, whereas the continuous loop in the chair embodies its infinite possibility for recycling.

The chair’s soft curves and fluid shapes embrace the human body seamlessly, whilst the hard and sturdy material provides proper support. The organic yet creased shapes result in an intriguing and truly unique object.

My Contributions

I was responsible for concept development until production, and a project manager helped to source partners.

During this iterative process, it was key to involve production partners from an early stage, since the design is quite challenging. The chosen production method is rotor molding, and the goal was to design it from one single piece, so the design could easily be recycled down the line.

The biggest challenge during this project was convincing a production partner this design would be strong enough. The design had to be changed many times, to be optimized for manufacturing.
